Elitism, self-righteousness, or a "holier-than-thou" attitude is something that we all have encountered, and it's something that—if we're honest—we all have struggled with in ourselves. We've all looked down upon or thought less of someone because they were different or weren't part of the right group. Jesus confronts this sinful narcissism and elitism in his disciples, and we must confront it in ourselves and in our churches.

In sports, a fair-weather fan will support a team when they are doing well, but when the team doesn't meet the fan's expectations, that fan turns against them. Many churchgoers are fair-weather Christians: loving Jesus when things are going well, but rejecting him when he doesn't live up to the follower's expectations.

After hearing about Jesus' ministry, King Herod asked a question that people have been asking for centuries: "who is this Jesus?" There are many opinions about the identity of Jesus.
